What is a Registered Dietitian (RD) and Why Meet With One?

To become a Registered Dietitian (RD), one must complete an undergraduate program in nutrition that meets the requirements of the American Dietetics Association . Nicole Schillinger completed her Bachelor of Science in nutrition at Penn State University. Then, as required to achieve RD status, she completed an approved internship and successfully passed the RD registration examination. Yearly continuing education credits are required to keep current on a wide range of nutrition topics and to maintain her registration. In a Pennsylvania practice a license is required as well.

On the other hand, a nutritionist is someone who completes an undergraduate program in nutrition without meeting all the requirements to become an RD. Unfortunately there is no restriction on the use of the term “nutritionist,” so many unqualified people call themselves “nutritionists.” This is why it is important to speak with a licensed registered dietitian for your nutritionrelated questions.

Our dietitian is also a certified personal trainer and group exercise instructor with years of experience educating and teaching the public about the importance of health and wellness. She will inspire you to achieve your physical fitness goals, and challenge and guide you as you make dietary changes for the benefit of your health.
